At OURstory Foundation, we believe domestic violence is one of the most significant social issues facing our communities today. It impacts people of every age, background, profession, culture, and postcode and its effects extend far beyond the home. Domestic violence impacts families, workplaces, schools, friendships, mental health, children, and entire communities.
OURstory was created as a lived-experience-led foundation dedicated to prevention, education, advocacy, and meaningful, long-term change. We exist because awareness alone is not enough. Communities need practical education, honest conversations, early intervention, and strong leadership that is willing to challenge harmful behaviours and outdated attitudes.
Founded by people with both lived experience and professional expertise, OURstory was built on the belief that prevention starts long before crisis intervention. It starts in schools, homes, workplaces, sporting clubs, online spaces, and everyday conversations. It starts with teaching people what healthy relationships look like, helping communities recognise red flags early, and creating environments where people feel safe to speak up and seek support.
Our work focuses heavily on prevention and early education because we know real change happens when communities are empowered with knowledge. Through education programs, awareness initiatives, speaking events, advocacy campaigns, and partnerships, we aim to create safer communities and stronger futures for the next generation.
We are passionate about:
Educating communities about domestic violence and coercive control
Promoting healthy relationships and respectful communication
Challenging stigma, silence, and victim blaming
Supporting prevention-focused conversations
Empowering young people with knowledge and confidence
Creating practical and trauma-informed education programs
Advocating for cultural and systemic change
Building safer and more connected communities
At OURstory Foundation, we understand that domestic violence prevention is not the responsibility of one person or one service alone. It requires communities, organisations, educators, leaders, parents, workplaces, and everyday people to work together.
We believe every conversation matters.
Every voice matters.
And every story has the power to create change.
